RCIA helps adults learn more about the Catholic faith

Rite of Christian Initiation Classes

Growing in faith with RCIA

  • Have you been worshiping with us, but never officially took the step to become Catholic?
  • Have you been away from the church and have now returned, but want to know more?
  • Have you been a Catholic all your life, but never celebrated all the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist?)
  • Have you joined us from a different background and would now like to find out more about the Catholic Church?

If any of the above questions apply to you, we would love to help you in your journey. Or, if you know of anyone who could answer YES to any of the above questions, perhaps you could extend an invitation to them!

In recent years, there has been a great increase in the number of adults who are joining the Catholic Church. RCIA is a program designed to help non-Catholics and non-practicing Catholics learn more about the Catholic faith through a series of classes, discussions, prayer times and ceremonies. This program helps people grow in faith and knowledge of God, and develop a deeper relationship with God as they consider becoming Catholic.

If you are not yet sure whether you want to become Catholic, you are still welcome to participate as you make your decision. There is no obligation to join the Catholic Church and regardless of your decision you are always welcome here at St. Mary-St. Catherine of Siena Parish.

To find out how you may participate in the RCIA process, please contact Sr. Nancy Citro, SNDdEN at (617) 242- 4664 or ncitro@stmarystcatherine.org. We look forward to welcoming you!

Rite of Election at Holy Cross Cathedral

On the First Sunday of Lent at the 10AM Mass, our congregation prayerfully welcomed Adam Berger, a catechumen in our Parish, and sent him forth to Holy Cross Cathedral for the Rite of Election Service. The Rite of Election is a service for adults and children who are in a process of discernment and are engaged in classes to become Catholic. It is also for Catholic candidates who are preparing to receive the sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation. Featured right are Adam and his sponsor Laura with Cardinal Sean O’Malley at the end of the Rite of Election Service.

Please keep Adam in prayer as he continues his preparation to be received into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil on March 30th at 7:30PM.

Adult Confirmation Classes

“Empowered by the Spirit, and drawing upon faith’s rich vision, a new generation of Christians is being called to help build a world in which God’s gift of life is welcomed, respected and cherished – not rejected, feared as a threat and destroyed.

A new age in which love is not greedy or self-seeking, but pure, faithful and genuinely free, open to others, respectful of their dignity, seeking their good, radiating joy and beauty.

A new age in which hope liberates us from the shallowness, apathy and self-absorption which deaden our souls and poison our relationships.

Dear friends, the Lord is asking you to be prophets of this new age, messengers of his love, drawing people to the Father and building a future of hope for all humanity.”

Pope Benedict XVI, World Youth Celebration, Australia, Summer 2008

Many adults who have been Baptized and have made their First Communion in the Catholic Church have never had the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Maybe… It’s Time

  • To deepen your relationship with God who loves and cares about you
  • To re-engage your world again as a Catholic more informed about your faith and its impact in your life.
  • To re-new yourself and others through the unique power of the Holy Spirit who guides us in Love and Truth.

We will be scheduling six 90-minute classes beginning in mid-February to prepare Adults 18 years and older for this Sacrament. If you are interested in more information or would like to register for these classes, please call the Parish Center at 617-242-4664.  We look forward to hearing from you.

RCIA orientation

Rite of Christian Initiation Classes (RCIA) begin with orientation on Wednesday evening, October 10 at 6:30 p.m.

New parishioners receive Rite of Election at Holy Cross

Above, Chelsea Fisher with sponsor and husband Shane, and Keri Wintle with sponsor Sean.

Keri Wintle and Chelsea Fisher experienced the Rite of Election last week at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. Keri and Chelsea entered our Parish RCIA program as catechumens, adults who haven’t been baptized in any faith. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a process of catechetical instruction, spiritual practice and liturgies. The Rite of Election closes this period of training and affirms their intention to join the Church. They were recently blessed at Saint Mary Church and sent to Holy Cross for this wonderful occasion.  From here they receive the full welcome of the Church and Sacraments of Initiation.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) classes

Every year, St. Mary–St. Catherine of Siena Parish offers RCIA classes for those who are baptized Catholics but have not had the opportunity to receive First Communion or Confirmation; for baptized Christians who are interested in learning more about the Catholic faith and, perhaps, becoming Catholic; and for those who have never been baptized but are discerning whether to do so within the context of the Catholic Church.

If you or anyone you know is interested in attending these classes or would like more information, you can contact Sr. Nancy at ncitro@stmarystcatherine.org or 617-242-4664.  We look forward to welcoming you!
