If interested, please call (617) 242-4664!

Summer reading with the Book Group
The Parish Book Group will take a summer break and resume its monthly discussion meeting schedule on Oct. 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Center. Their summer selection is Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom by John O’Donohue. Publisher Progressive Christianity describes Anam Cara as a source of “profound insights on the universal themes of friendship, solitude, love, and death … the Irish term anam cara (lit. “soul-friend”) originates in Irish monasticism, where it was applied to a monk’s spiritual advisor.” The Book Group invites all parishioners and visitors to enjoy this alternate “beach read” this summer and come back in October to share your reflections at their next gathering!

Retreat in Ecuador with Rostro de Cristo
Rostro invites people from the U.S. to grow in their faith through their retreat program every year. For a week, retreat participants will have the opportunity to live, serve, and be invited into relationships with our Ecuadorian neighbors.
Retreatants serve with RDC volunteers in two communities, experiencing a reality far different from their own. In the evenings, retreatants prayerfully reflect together on their experiences, seeking to understand how they have encountered the face of Christ that day and how Christ is calling them to compassionately serve others and work for justice. As a retreat participant, you are invited to live in an intentional faith-based community during your time in Ecuador. You will pray, reflect, and celebrate Mass with others who are sharing in your retreat experience.
For more information about this wonderful opportunity, please send an e-mail to RDC Director Evan Cuthbert at firstname.lastname@example.org.
RDC at a glance
There are currently 15 RDC volunteers in Mount Sinai and Arbolito, two barrios (neighborhoods) outside Guayaquil, Ecuador’s largest city.
These rapidly growing communities contain migrants from rural areas who come in search of jobs, education, and health care. These barrios are also stricken with chronic poverty, along with a lack of potable water, proper sanitation, electricity, and schools.
Volunteers serve as catechists and youth ministers. They also work with a local partner 20-25 hours a week to serve neighbors in these communities.
Retreatants work with RDC volunteers for a period of 6-8 days.
“To love God and neighbor is not something abstract, but profoundly concrete: it means seeing in every person the face of the Lord to be served, to serve him concretely. And you are, dear brothers and sisters, the face of Jesus.” – Pope Francis
St. Mary-St. Catherine of Siena Parish is looking for tutors for second-graders at the Harvard-Kent School. The time commitment is reasonable: one hour, one day a week, at lunchtime, 12:30 to 1:25p.m.
An initial meeting for those interested will be held at the Harvard-Kent School on Wednesday, September 10 at 5:00 p.m. Please bring a photo ID for registration. The tutoring itself will begin the first week of October.
Harvard-Kent educates the largest number of students living in public housing in the state. The students thrive on healthy adult relationships; not only can tutoring help the children with their lessons, it can provide a positive role model for them as well.
If you are interested in helping out as a tutor, please call Tom MacDonald in the Social Ministry Office at 617-337-3545 or send an email to email@example.com.
Are you interested in doing something more with your faith than just coming to Mass on Sunday? If so, you should consider signing up to help with our Religious Education program!
We are looking for fun, dynamic volunteers for grades K-8 and Confirmation to guide and motivate the youth of our community towards a more full and fun relationship with their faith. Fourteen teaching volunteers are on board for the new year, but we still need lots of help for different aspects of the program. Please consider signing up! If you are nervous to sign up on your own, sign up with a friend! Getting involved with the RelEd program is a great, fun way to build community while giving back to God, and the youth in our Parish.
The first informational meeting for volunteers is Thursday, September 5 from 6:30-8PM. Dinner will be provided! If you have any questions, please contact Anne Krane at firstname.lastname@example.org.

St. Mary-St. Catherine parishioners are invited to join in a trip to Educador from November 18-23 working with the volunteers of Rostro de Cristo. It’s a great opportunity for young people from our parish to visit, work and pray in conjunction with the volunteers and members of the local community of Guayaquil. This retreat provides an opportunity to live out the Gospel, deepen our understanding of the reality of a developing country and to make a difference by committing to service, faith and social justice. We hope that you’ll join us! For more info, contact Ros Kane at firstname.lastname@example.org or Chris Callanan at email@example.com.
We look forward to hearing from you!
