Easter at the Parish-2015

Palm Sunday 2015

Parishioners gathered in the Training Field last weekend with blessed palms as part of our Palm Sunday services, then proceeded down Winthrop Street for Mass in St. Mary’s Church.

The music continues

The Parish recently acquired a handsome Reed organ from the Parish of the All Saints in Ashmont. This instrument, installed in the sanctuary, will ably support our wonderful music program while the Woodberry & Harris is restored.

The music continues!

A Parish in pictures

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words—so we invite you to wonder about our Parish as you look at these splendid pictures from the Family Mass and Scout Sunday on February 2 and the RelEd 2nd Grade Retreat.

A wonderful weekend for Christmas music!

Parishioners and guests were treated to some wonderful music performances over last weekend! On Dec. 6, we were visited by the Barker College Choir & Orchestra from Sydney, Australia. (Top right) Director Peter Ellis had read of our Organ Restoration Project in the Boston Globe and asked to perform in St. Mary’s during their U.S. tour. Donations taken on this night went to our organ restoration fund. And on Dec. 8, we welcomed the return of the Copley Singers, under the direction of Brian Jones and featuring organist Stuart Forster. (Bottom right) This talented group has performed in concerts around New England since its formation in 2006. Donations on this night went to Harvest on Vine.

Cleaning the Church for Easter 2012

Every year, we invite parishioners to help clean St. Mary’s Church for Holy Week and Easter. This involves a great amount of sweeping, dusting and polishing of many fixtures and relics. Some of the most difficult work involves cleaning the Apostles on our main altar. Five days before Easter, the heavy statues and their pedestals were carried down, cleaned, and carefully returned to their alcoves.

Celebrating the Year of Faith with the Blessing of Mary’s Peace Garden: The spirit of the Parish was alive on Oct. 21, 2012 with happy parishioners who gathered to celebrate the Year of Faith, and witness the blessing of the newly renovated Mary’s Peace Garden. This will be a welcome addition to the Parish, a place where visitors can stop to pray and children can play. (Photos in this collection courtesy of Maribeth MacDonald and Louise Potter.)

The Renovation of Mary’s Peace Garden: Renovations were underway in the garden behind Saint Mary Church, located on Soley Street, in the summer of 2012. The project included the restoration of four statues (Our Lady of Fatima plus three children), the installation of a brick path, granite benches for adults and children, a grass lawn, shrubs and bushes.

Chapel Inauguration: More than 200 parishioners and guests witnessed the inauguration of St. Catherine of Siena Chapel on Dec. 10, 2011. With Cardinal Seán O’Malley blessing the altar and ambo, a new chapter opened in our vibrant and joyful community. We invite you to our Daily Mass here at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 23 through Friday, Dec. 30! (Photos courtesy of Maribeth MacDonald)

Advent Wreaths: RelEd students learned about Advent and made wreaths during the Big Event on Nov. 18, 2011. Featured here are Ann Conner and Oscar Calderon, helping to decorate Saint Mary’s Church. Heartfelt gratitude to Anne, who has graciously donated her talents and trimmings each year for this project. Her lovely wreaths bring color and liveliness to this sacred space for the Advent season!
