The focus of first grade is learning more about Jesus and our faith. We are followers of Jesus. We belong to the Church and the Church wants us to celebrate and live our faith! We require this year of faith formation for children to receive Holy Communion. The first grade curriculum sets the foundation for grade 2 where students receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. By the end of first grade, your child should have a basic understanding of the liturgical calendar; know the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be prayers; and have a basic understanding of the parts of the mass.
