Charlestown Catholic Collaborative Children’s Choir

Dear Parents of Faith Formation Students,

We are excited to announce the Charlestown Community Collaborative St. Mary-St. Catherine /St. Francis Children’s Choir.

Some of you have already expressed interest in having your child sing, which is fantastic. Please fill out the form and let us know if your child would like to officially join!

All children in grades K-6 are encouraged to participate, regardless of ability or experience.  This is simply a chance to raise precious voices in song to our Lord.  The choir will be led by our 6PM cantor and retired Elementary Music Teacher, Jeanie Grace, with Music Director, John Volpe.  Rehearsals will be held in the St. Catherine Chapel  in the lower level of St. Mary’s church.  The times will be announced once we gather the best availability dates from all families, per the survey included in the form.

The structure will be informal to start, as we appreciate the many scheduled commitments and activities students already have.  Jeanie and John will prepare music and recordings for children to practice at home.  There will be only three short rehearsals between now and December.  The aim is to have our choir “perform” two simple songs during the 4PM Mass on Christmas Eve at St. Mary Church on Sunday, December 24th.

If you’ve never been, this is the most special mass you’ve ever seen.  Santa Claus comes to pay homage to the live baby Jesus, Mother Mary, and Joseph (newly born baby of one of the parish couples earlier in the year.) The lights are low during a poignant narration and YOUR child is singing “Silent Night” to top it all off. What could be more beautiful!
