Saint Joseph the Worker

May 1 – Saint Joseph the Worker

In 1955, Pope Pius XII added the feast of Saint Joseph the Worker in response to the celebration of May Day by Communist workers. St. Joseph, who was given the title of Protector of the Universal Church in 1870, had the noble task of caring and watching over the Virgin Mary and Jesus. He now cares for and watches over the Church and exemplifies the dignity of human work.
